Training opportunities for SES volunteersRegister to join the SA SES

Many of our volunteers perform highly skilled activities in their service to the community. Volunteers attend regular training evenings and exercises run by their local SES unit.

Metropolitan Adelaide SES units train for several hours each week. Most country SES units train one evening a fortnight. Volunteers are expected to respond to callouts as they occur.

We are an Enterprise Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Our RTO Code is 40242. This ensures we can provide quality-assured nationally recognised training and qualifications to all our volunteers. We do not provide this training to the public.

We train our volunteers in a range of skills including basic training which volunteers are required to complete. We also train in specialist skills depending on the types of rescue activities individual volunteers and units are involved with.

SA SES TrainingThe training provided for SES members may include:
• Rescue skills: land, marine, swiftwater, vertical, search and rescue
• Storm damage relief
• Communications/radio operation
• Map reading and navigation
• Operations Centre duties
• Reconnaissance and observation
• Leadership and instructional methods
