State Emergency Service Drones
The South Australian State Emergency Service (SASES) has a fleet of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs, commonly known as drones) strategically located across the state that are utilised for a range of operational tasks and support our volunteers working on the ground.
These aircraft are predominantly used for:
• Searching for a missing person in large areas / dense terrain or areas hazardous for our volunteers to search (cliffs)
• Damage assessments of dams, buildings, flooded areas or communities and other terrain
• 3D mapping of terrain, waterways or structures
• Photography and filming for promotional material, memorabilia and training resources
The South Australian State Emergency Service is licensed to operate RPAs through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and our SES volunteers are trained and licensed as Remote Pilots.
