SES volunteers assisting in a bike searchBike Search and Rescue (BikeSAR) is an integral part of the State Emergency Service (SASES) land search response. Deploying trained and accredited land search operations personnel on mountain bikes can greatly enhance search capabilities, resulting in dramatically reduced search times. Should a major disaster occur, bikes can be used for reconnaissance, accessing areas that conventional vehicles may find difficult to reach.

Teams also attend major events, such as the Clipsal 500 and WOMAdelaide, to assist rescue crews with fast access to incidents for reconnaissance and support the SA Ambulance Service with ambulance guidance through heavy pedestrian traffic.

BikeSAR teams comprise two members with skills in first aid, mapping and navigation, and land search operations.
High levels of fitness are required for this task as teams operate remotely and need to be self-reliant.
